RELEASE: Chief Justice for Administration and Management Robert A. Mulligan today announced that the Third District Court of Eastern Middlesex, currently located in the Edward J. Sullivan Courthouse in Cambridge, will move to a new court facility in Medford on the Mystic Valley Parkway and will open for business at this new site on Monday, February 23, 2009. Approximately 70 court personnel will occupy the renovated 56,000 square-foot, one-story building, which the Trial Court has leased for five years. The facility provides three courtrooms with sound amplification and digital audio recording capabilities, two jury deliberation rooms, and 12 holding cells with separate areas for men and women. The building also provides modern security and HVAC systems, record storage space, and on-site parking. The courthouse also includes office space for staff of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Court Clinic, as well as space designated for victims/witnesses, bar advocates and police prosecutors. Individuals seeking domestic violence restraining orders will continue to be served in the District Court at its new location in Medford. Domestic violence restraining order relief continues to be available at the Middlesex Probate and Family Courthouse at 208 Cambridge Street in Cambridge. Commencing on March 23, 2009 public transportation to the relocated district court is available from Lechmere Station by taking the Green Line inbound to North Station, at North Station boarding the Orange Line to Wellington Station and at Wellington Station boarding the bus #134c for transportation to the bus stop at the corner of Commercial Street and Mystic Valley Parkway near the courthouse entrance.
